General duties

• To work under the leadership and direction of the Registered Manager to ensure that the day-to-day needs of the children in our care are met, including staff management and supervision, care and placement planning, safeguarding, and monitoring quality and compliance.
• To manage the Home effectively in the absence of the Registered Manager
• Ensure that the House Model of Parenting (PLACE), which is a unique approach that focuses on Playfulness, Love, Acceptance, Curiosity, and Empathy, is filtered through in the day-to-day care provided at the Home, and ensure the ethos is embedded in the Home and the children are fully involved in all aspects of their care
• Assisting with providing a needs-led service, keeping in line with the Home’s Statement of Purpose
• Develop safe, professional, supportive, and nurturing relationships with the children
• Set, promote, and role model appropriate personal behaviour for the children
• Always demonstrate a clear understanding of personal and professional boundaries
• Encourage and support a lifestyle that facilitates the spiritual, physical, psychological, cultural, and social needs of our children
• Develop practices and work responsively to support children in achieving their potential
• Engage with children in pursuing education, play, hobbies, and interests
• Be responsible for and assist children with all aspects of all life skills, independence skills, and general home life skills such as cooking, cleaning, washing, and ironing
• Support children to manage themselves and their behaviours, enabling them to recognise the impact of their actions on themselves and others using reflection and approved methods of intervention
• Support the child’s relationships with other significant people in the child’s life by fostering a positive/professional approach
• Work with all Children carrying out their care plans to ensure that their physical, emotional, and social well-being is cared for and feeding back relevant information to Keyworkers and professionals as appropriate
• Maintain and promote good relationships with team members, management, external professional networks, and the home’s neighbours
• Assist with the development, implementation, review, and evaluation of children’s planned activities in accordance with their individual care plan
• Ensure that systems are developed and are in place to regularly monitor and adhere to the Quality Standards outlined in ‘The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015’.
• Ensure that the home’s documentation is completed, accurate, and kept up to date in accordance with established policies and procedures. Maintaining reports and records in respect of individual children and their progress, and attending relevant meetings, care reviews, parents’ evenings, etc., and making appropriate referrals to other agencies should the need be
• Ensure that all matters, whether alleged or substantiated, that are of a child protection or safeguarding nature are reported to your line manager immediately
• Ensure that all medicines are appropriately stored, controlled, and administered as prescribed for each child
• Hold responsibility for the running of the home as the main point of call and decision making in line with policy and procedure, and the individual child’s risk assessment
• Hold responsibility for home budgets, Petty Cash, and child’s finances, ensure that you record all monies that are injected and spent clearly, and any discrepancies are documented
• Ensure that when a child raises a complaint, whether verbal or written, they are acted on promptly
• Enable children to develop and maintain relationships with staff through consultation
• Ensure that you are proactive in responding to a missing child from the home in line with the company’s missing person’s procedure and the individual child’s Risk Assessment
