What’s it like working at Cornerways Care?
- Work/Life Balance
The shift patterns mean I can have plenty of days in between work and my manager has always been mindful of other commitments I have.
- Training Course
To ensure the children have the best care, we have a full programme of training. We have our own in-house Certified and Qualified Proactive Approaches Trainer which helps us understand and manage emotional and behavioural needs.
- Free BUPA Counselling Service
Everyone needs some external support from time to time. I can call a free confidential helpline for support on anything from money management to legal issues and so can the people who live with me.
- Little Extra’s
I can get paid for gym membership and a Blue Light Card which gives access to over 15,000 discounts.
- Working with a Clinical Psychologist
The team has monthly sessions with a dedicated clinical psychologist where we can have advice, guidance and support to manage anything within the Home that we work in.
- Career Progression
There are Residential Care Workers that are now Deputy Managers, Deputy Managers who are now Managers and Manager who is now Senior Manager so how I do in my job matters if I want to progress up.
- Little gestures
I got paid £300 for referring my friend to work at Cornerways Care. There’s always a treat waiting for me by my Manager from my favourite biscuits to an Amazon Voucher here and there, just to make me feel appreciated.
- Supporting Each Other
I know I can approach not just my manager, but also the Responsible Individual, Director and anyone else at Head Office. It’s good to know they’ve all done this job and know what it’s like.
- Great Training
This doesn’t just stop at the induction period. It carries on. And when someone is interested in specific training, they’re listened to. Even coming from no work experience in this field, the training equips you to support the children to achieve their full potential. The training has also helped me personally.
- What do our Customers value the most?
Our customers are really the young people we support, and they value the support and family environment that the home provides for them. They are listened to and are helped to be involved. They are nurtured and can feel safe.

Some comments from staff
“We are passionate about the children we care for and are supportive to each other within the organisation. We go above and beyond in the Homes because the organisation goes above and beyond”
“The support from management is phenomenal”
“Friendly team environment – you can speak to anyone in the organisation regardless of the title”
“Being a smaller company, we are able to provide more support and training for staff who show interest in specialism”
“We get acknowledged for the hard work and the dedication across the staff at Cornerways Care”
“I have worked for larger companies in the past and felt that the quality in care has dipped because of this. I wanted to work for a smaller company that recognised each young person for who they are and tailored the service offered on this”
“The Local Authorities and the families I work with here have valued the honesty and respect”.
“It’s great how we work together inside the Company and with outside agencies – this is great for positive outcomes”.
“Every day is different, and my opinions are valued and respected within the Company”.
“The Company feels like one big family, which puts it aside from the bigger companies, and we can provide that tailored care to our young people”
“I am a firm believer in honesty, integrity and respect. I feel this match Cornerways Care in a nutshell. It is a company which values its staff and does its best to develop and encourage them in any aspect that interests them within this setting”
“I like the fact that Cornerways Care has small residential homes, so fewer children, enabling positive relationships to be formed”.
“We care about our children and our staff, and we value every single person in the Company and recognise them as the individuals they are”.
“I like everything about working for Cornerways Care, from the gift when I had a loss in my family, paying for lunches at some of the meetings, giving staff a small gift as a token of appreciation and going above and beyond. I can’t speak highly enough of the Company”.
“The Company invests in the children and the staff, they just care”.
“I wanted growth and challenges, which I felt that I had within Cornerways Care. I also like the idea of a smaller Company and not a big organisation where sometimes growth isn’t always possible”
“The image I have is of a therapeutic nature, the homes look beyond the behaviours of the child and look to challenge or change the image of what most see when they think of children’s homes”.
“I like the family feel of the Company, I like the openness and willingness to challenge, and effect change within our young people, I like the small things, the appreciation of what we do”.
“We are in business as we provide a bespoke service and are recognised for that service by the young people, the professionals, and families”.
“I wanted to work for this company because from my first interview, I could see that this Company stood out. It stands out as I could see the care and attention put into the young people and their lives at Cornerways Care, and I wanted to be part of that”.
“It’s a kind, caring, professional and engaging company”.
“I like the supportive environment, how when you are new, the team around you are welcoming and willing to help you. You can see how dedicated the team are to the person, and that makes you feel like you are in the right environment to support young people”.
“The difference here is that it comes from the top and filters down, the Responsible Individual, Management, Director and more are confident, engaged and checking on each aspect. There is no comparison to others as the focus is on the Company and the young people supported”.
“We use Proactive Approaches as our preferred behaviour support programme as it links in with trauma and attachment and how we build relationships with our young people”.
